The Human Givens approach is a practical, solution-focused form of psychotherapy based on the idea that we all have a set of innate emotional needs — such as security, connection, meaning, community, autonomy, intimacy, privacy, status, purpose and achievement — and the in-built resources to meet them. When these needs are not met in balance or our internal resources are misused, distress and mental health difficulties can arise.
In sessions, we work together to identify what’s out of balance, draw on your existing strengths, and use proven, gentle techniques to calm emotional distress, change unhelpful patterns, and build resilience. This approach aims to help you feel better quickly and give you tools you can use long after therapy ends.
